The Thing Modulator is a play off of the ring modulator effect which does something a little different but produces a very similar sound. I built this from scratch using Tim Escobedo's schematic from his Circuit Snippets page. The pedal has four controls for frequency, clean blend, output volume and a knob/switch combo control that brings the frequency so far down that the pedal moves into tremolo territory. It produces ugly, clanky, robotic tones.
